Aerial 3D site model with solar panels placed across a roof

I led a two-person engineering team through a complete rewrite of SolarVis's production site-modelling experience.

A The challenge

Making complexity feel direct.

The product needed to make detailed rooftop modelling faster without sacrificing the precision or performance expected from a professional design tool.

B The approach

Engineering the interaction.

  • Rebuilt the modelling workflow and interface around faster, clearer editing.
  • Implemented angle snapping and a straight-skeleton algorithm for roof geometry.
  • Added multiple map providers plus custom and drone-image workflows.
  • Improved rendering performance across complex site models.

C The outcome

Work that shipped.

The new application shipped in six months with faster modelling, a more capable geometry toolkit, a clearer UI, and stronger real-time performance.
